Company Profile

Electrak is a well-established manufacturer of power distribution and lighting control systems. The company has been successfully operating for over a quarter of a century from its base in Consett, County Durham, UK.

The company operates in three separate product areas. Office power distribution promotes a range of underfloor power track, floor boxes, floor grommets and Rotasoc, a multi-socket, modular desk system. As one of the market leaders, these well-established products are used in high spec modern offices around the world.

Lighting Control offers a future-proof lighting control system, Lightrak, which is simple to install, commission, operate and reconfigure. Lighting controls can deliver up to 40% energy savings, so are at the forefront of sustainable energy initiatives. Electrak has also developed a busbar-hybrid, known as buscom trunking, for use with building control systems. Buscom trunking combines power and control cabling together within a single product, increasing reliability and speeding installation times. These products can be used in a wide range of non-domestic settings, with one or both of them already installed in places such as Heathrow Terminal 5, the new grandstand at Ascot Racecourse, and what was briefly the tallest building outside London, Bridgewater Place in Leeds.

Busbar Trunking ranges from 25A to 1000A, serving commercial, retail, warehousing and industrial applications, including office and retail lighting, mains risers and medium power transfer and distribution to industrial plant and equipment. It offers low maintenance, cost effective and easy to install ‘plug and play’ power distribution.

Finally Electrak manufactures a range of non-standard plugs and sockets for use in various specialist applications, such as supermarkets, retail outlets and public spaces.

The company works with its wholesale partners to ensure a fast turnaround on customer orders, with delivery-from-stock fulfilment on many lines. In the UK, the company has its own specification sales engineers, with the in-depth knowledge and experience needed to help customers specify the most appropriate products for them. Further afield, the export department calls on the resources of international distribution partners to offer high levels of expertise overseas in places such as India, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Middle East.

All the company’s products are designed and built to internationally accredited safety and compliance standards.

Electrak Environmental Statement

Electrak International takes its commitment to sustainability seriously, and takes all steps, where possible, to reduce the environmental impact of its business and its products. Some of these facts and initiatives have been detailed below.

Manufacturing recycling

Electrak recycles all it can during the manufacturing process. This includes cardboard, paper, steel, aluminium, copper and plastics. This accounts for over 95% of the waste produced during the manufacturing process.

Product recycling

Electrak’s products are principally constructed out of copper, galvanised steel and plastics, all of which are readily recyclable. This means when a product’s useful life is over, the materials can be easily and cost-effectively recycled by the end-user’s waste management provider.

Wholesaler stockist hubs

Electrak maintains a geographically spread range of stockist wholesale branches throughout the UK. By shipping large quantities of stock to these local hubs, appropriate transport can be used for national and local deliveries, maximising efficiency (full lorries / vans) and minimising emissions.

Future-proof means less wastage

A common theme of Electrak’s products is “future-proof”. This means less wastage, because a product’s useful lifetime is much, much longer. Power track and busbar are both solutions which mean no re-cabling when power needs change (which they regularly do in a commercial office). Rotasoc’s click-fit modularity means it can change specification by simply adding and removing modules. And Lightrak is a fully addressable lighting control solution that can change the functionality of the lighting system merely through plugging in a computer and reprogramming.

Lighting Control

The Lightrak lighting control solution can save up to 30-40% of lighting energy costs* in a building, a cost which accounts for around 50% of a commercial office’s energy bill.

Ongoing review

Electrak will maintain an ongoing review of sustainability in its business operations. It intends to publish targets aimed at reducing its overall carbon footprint over the coming months and years, and will actively work with others, including local and government agencies, suppliers and customers, to achieve these targets.
